Una felicità dura, di piú generazioni
A Bruna, madre di mia madre
Aveva dentro racconti di cose mai
viste, sfollamenti, ritorni
mancati e altri, misteriosi,
dai geli della Russia.
E anni senza marito, due figlie
appese al collo sulle navi
tra Genova e l’Etiopia.
Aveva dentro uno spartito
con mille note che io
non ho mai sentito, una gran
copia di emozioni che chi di noi
ha mai vissuto...
Aveva negli occhi il ridere
d’avere conosciuto il suo uomo
davanti alla gabbia dei conigli
in un mattino aspro e gentile
quando lui salutò con due battute
volgarotte e celestiali.
Il suo uomo grande
partito prima di lei, servito
come un re
e come un bimbo poi
accompagnato fino all’ombra.
In lei,
gran madre,
era ospitale
anche il vago cenno
erano vere le apprensioni
persino l’ira che pungeva
a volte in fondo agli occhi.
Per il mondo?
Sì, per quello.
Ad ospitare ogni cosa
si soffre, molto.
Occorre
una felicità dura, di più generazioni.
A Stubborn Bliss, Over Generations
To Bruna, my mother’s mother
She carried within her tales
of things never before seen, flights en masse,
unmade journeys home and many other, mysterious things
from a frosty Russia.
Years gone by without a husband,
passing on ships in between Genova and Ethiopia,
two children clinging to her neck.
Within her a score of a thousand notes
that I’ve yet to hear, a great page
of emotions that none of us has
ever lived...
In her eyes the smile of having
met her man before the rabbit hutch
a gentle, acrid morning
when his greeting was but
a couple coarse and heavenly lines.
Her wonderful spouse, who anticipated
her departure, treated
like a king
like a child guided
into the shadow.
In her,
grand mother,
the most faint nod
was welcoming
her anxieties were real
even the rage that at times stung
her behind the eyes.
As for the world?
Yes, for it too.
To shelter each thing
one suffers, greatly.
It takes
a stubborn bliss over generations.
